Almitras village

“Al Mitras” The reason for its name is due to its location on the foot of a mountain chain that connects with the mountains of Wadi al- Nasara from the east. It is a medium sized village in terms of population of approximately 6000 people, according to local sources.
The history of the village goes back to the beginning of the nineteenth century. There is an old mosque and several old mills near the banks of the rivers that cross the village from the neighboring villages ( Mashha River, the Aros River and the Salat River).
It’s surrounded by many villages (Bait, Mashta Azar, Khirbit al-Jib and Ain Dabish). It extends over a wide area of green fields, mostly planted with olive trees. The majority of the villagers depend on agriculture and coal industry for their livelihood.
The village is considered one of the quiet villages in summer and winter. Its people are distinguished by kindness, courage and generosity of guests. there is a municipality in the village, to which the villages of Al-Matras and Bait are affiliated.
There is a medical center, three pharmacies, and two primary and preparatory schools. There are also several retail shops, car repair shops and electronics and electrical repair shop in the village.
There is also an olive press that is still working on the old method. The press is currently being developed with modern tools.
